Full Description

Bravium translates from Latin as “gift” or “reward.” With the first taste, you’ll know you’ve given yourself a gift. But like everything about this wine, there are many layers to appreciate and enjoy.

A classic minimalist, winemaker Derek Rohlffs makes wine like a sculptor, working with nature to release the wine, rather than create it. Minimal intervention doesn’t mean apathy, though. In fact, it’s the opposite. It takes thoughtful and deliberate restraint to allow space for nuance and the purest expression of the varietal to come through, all within a frame reflecting the terroir.

It was the inextricable link between wine and land that first pulled Derek into winemaking. Whether from his studies at UCSB in Environmental Science or his Cherokee heritage, Derek brings to his winemaking a deep connection to the land.

As a child, Derek’s parents gifted him the name “Winter Hawk.” The sight of a hawk feather found in his vineyard reminds Derek that he is honoring and appreciating the gifts from nature while fulfilling his destiny.

A regular at AV’s Pinot Fest, do yourself a favor and taste this wine!
