Local Radio & Anderson Valley Wine Team Up
In Anderson Valley, and across Mendocino County, member supported KZYX, Mendocino Public Broadcasting, is one of the community’s most important sources of timely news, both local and national. It’s also the spot on the dial for fun and creative locally produced music shows of all sorts. KZYX partners with Anderson Valley wineries who donate wine to fundraising events that support our local community and radio.
KZYX is located in the Philo, the heart of Anderson Valley wine country, and is uniquely staffed with those who live in the nearby community. True to Anderson Valley culture, the radio station is quaint and surrounded by forest, very close to Indian Creek and Hendy Wood State Parks.
Public Radio is a Crucial Asset to Our Rural Community
Crucially, KZYX is the place Mendocino County residents turn to in times of emergency. During fires and power outages, and since the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic, locals know that KZYX will provide crucial coverage and broadcast breaking news immediately and stay connected with local authorities to ensure having up-to-date and accurate information to impart.
Born and Raised in Philo, California!
In short, KZYX is a vibrant and unifying voice for Mendocino County. The station has always had an Anderson Valley influence, as well. The station was started over 30 years ago in Philo. While the station is hoping to make a much-needed move to Ukiah, the county seat, within the next few years, KZYX still broadcasts from the Philo box cars, as well as from their satellite studios in Willits, Ukiah and Fort Bragg. One “old school” show that locals love is Saturday morning’s “Trading Time,” during which folks call in to offer items for sale or trade or to give away. You’ll search the radio dial a long time before you hear a program like “Trading Time” still going strong!
KZYX broadcasts at 90.7 FM in Anderson Valley, at 91.5 FM in Ukiah and other points inland, and at 88.1 FM on the coast. They also stream live online at www.kzyx.org and offer a free KZYX app for smartphones. For more information, visit www.kzyx.org.
